One of the best-known names in cruising, Princess Cruises first set sail in 1965 with a single ship cruising to Mexico. Today, the line has grown to become the third largest cruise line in the world, renowned for innovative ships, an array of onboard options and an environment of exceptional customer service. Princess carries 1.7 million guests each year to destinations around the globe ranging in length from three to 114 days, allowing them to see the world and come back new®.
A recognized leader in worldwide cruising, and favorite among guests and critics alike, Princess has won multiple awards, including:
• “Best Cruise Itineraries” – Recommend Magazine (over a dozen times!)
• “Best Cruise Line In Alaska” – Travel Weekly (over a dozen times!)
• “Highest Customer Satisfaction” – TravelAge West
• “Best Ocean Cruise Line – USA Today
Princess Cruises was catapulted to stardom in 1977 when its ships, Pacific Princess® was cast in a starring role on a new television show called The Love Boat. The weekly series, which introduced millions of viewers to the concept of a sea-going vacation, was an instant hit and both the company name and the iconic Princess logo have remained synonymous with cruising ever since. The show, which can still be seen around the world, has been widely credited with fueling the dramatic expansion of the industry.
A history of innovation
Since its beginning, Princess has frequently paved the way in the cruise industry, evolving to meet the needs of vacationers. In fact, a number of Princess concepts have since been adopted by the entire cruise industry.
The company has long been the leader in building ships specifically designed to provide a most sought-after shipboard luxury: the private balcony. In the 1980s Princess pioneered the concept of the affordable veranda, once an exclusive feature available only in the most expensive suites. Today, Princess' fleet offers one of the highest percentages of balcony cabins in the industry, across all cabin categories.
In the mid-1990s the company pioneered the concept of putting passengers in control of their own cruise experience with the introduction of a wide range of flexible onboard facilities, amenities and services in order to create a personal vacation experience. Dining options were further revolutionized in 2001 as Princess became the first cruise line to offer passengers a choice in their main dining room experience – either the traditional seating or a restaurant-style Anytime Dining, in which diners could eat when and with whom they chose.
Today, guests are enjoying The Seawalk®. This first-of-its kind, 60-foot glass-floored walkway offers an unparalleled vision of the waves below, and was inspired by the captain’s view through the floor of the ship’s bridge.
In another industry first, Princess raised the bar for shipboard entertainment by partnering with Broadway’s Stephen Schwartz, composer of Godspell, Pippin and Wicked. Stephen created the spectacular production show Magic to Do exclusively for Princess.
Adding even more spectacle to an already dazzling slate of exciting entertainment, is Princess Watercolor Fantasy Show, a fountain show displaying cascading water illuminated with colored lights and choreographed to music
Other Princess innovations over the years include the first wedding chapel hosting modern-day weddings at sea, the unique Times Square-style Movies Under the Stars® poolside movie screen, and The Sanctuary, an adults-only oasis that has become exceedingly popular with passengers looking to relax.
Into this tradition of innovation comes Ocean Medallion™, a personalized vacation that lets guests do more of what they love. These cruises lets guests enjoy hassle-free arrival and boarding, easily stay connected with traveling companions and do everything from ordering drinks to booking excursions and specialty dining from wherever they are on board.
Your comfort zone
Princess strives to provide unsurpassed guest satisfaction on every sailing. To achieve this goal, Princess works hard to provide onboard programs and shore excursions that give guests the opportunity for meaningful travel and truly enriching vacation experiences.
Part of guests’ enjoyment of their cruise is being assured of their family’s comfort and security, which is why Princess has made a point of being able to accommodate additional guests in the same party with interconnecting staterooms, allowing families to stay together and feel more connected.
With guest comfort in mind, Princess offers invigorating treatments in The Lotus Spa, encouraging health and wellness as well as rejuvenation and relaxation, featuring a range of services from facials to massage to acupuncture.
If comfort is a state of mind, Princess has the perfect place to achieve it: The Sanctuary, a semi-secluded, lounge area just for adults. Here, guests can relax in peace, quiet and serenity on comfortable chaise lounges amid pleasant natural surroundings.
When it comes to relaxation on a vacation, a comfortable bed is an absolute must. With this necessity in mind, the Princess Luxury Bed assures the “best sleep at sea,” on a mattress and box spring designed exclusively for the cruise line by sleep experts. These beds have proven so popular, some guests have even purchased them to enjoy a better sleep in their own homes. Sweet dreams!
Exceptional guest service is one of the top priorities at Princess. Throughout the ship, guests can expect crew members to do everything they can to offer service with a smile. This includes everything from food and beverage service in our restaurants and assistance while browsing in The Shops of Princess to in-stateroom dining and housekeeping.
Service on board doesn’t end there, because the staff in our fitness center, The Lotus Spa®, youth centers, pools, lounges and every other area throughout the ship are all dedicated to making every guests’ cruise experience as enjoyable as possible, so they will want to come back and sail with Princess again and again.
Beginning Fall 2017, service is being elevated to a whole new level with Ocean MedallionTM, the next wave of vacation travel giving guests more time to relax and reconnect with the ones they love. Ocean MedallionTM anticipates guests’ needs, offering endless possibilities for personalized attention, from hassle-free arrival and boarding to a celebratory surprise in honor of a special occasion.
It all starts with a complimentary wearable Medallion, which functions as a cruise card, credit card and ID rolled into one! Designed to personalize service to each and every guest, Ocean Medallion even uses advanced technology to offer suggestions to guests based on the preferences they have shared with Princess in advance of their cruise.
Princess Cruises knows that it wouldn’t be a vacation without delicious food. With breads and sauces made from scratch, hand-cut steaks, homemade ice cream, and delicacies prepared by expert chefs, guests can savor foods as fresh as the ocean air.
Specialty Dining allows hungry guests the opportunity to choose upscale restaurants on board that rival the finest dining establishments anywhere. Whichever setting they choose, they can expect culinary sensations to suit every taste. Some of the offerings include Share by award-winning chef Curtis Stone, Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, with updated menu selections and handmade pastas by Italian chef Angelo Auriana, and The Salty Dog Gastropub, developed with renowned chef Ernesto Uchimura. Whether guests choose these, or Kai Sushi, the Crown Grill or private dining on their own stateroom balcony, the experience is designed to be a delight for the senses.
Enjoyable breakfast, lunch and dinner options are available at select dining locations throughout Princess ships, and guests can discover local dishes to match the destinations they visit, pleasing their palates and literally adding flavor to their overall cruise experience. Plus, gourmet desserts like chocolate creations by Norman Love, and beverage selections that include wine, spirits and both alcohol and non-alcohol packages make sure guests can satisfy their thirst, day or night.
Princess Cruises is in the business of inspiring imaginations, and nowhere is that more evident than in the onboard entertainment options covering many different genres. With spectacular production musicals, interactive shows, live music venues, specialty entertainment, casino action and more, guests have many choices of delightful ways of enjoying themselves each and every day aboard.
Princess has partnered with Tony®, Grammy® and Oscar®-winning composer Stephen Schwartz, known for Wicked, Pippin and Godspell, as well as music from movies and television, to create Magic to Do. Created exclusively for Princess, this exciting musical revue combines some of Schwartz’s most beloved compositions and new music with an original story and stunning stage illusions.
Fans of the #1-rated singing competition TV show and worldwide sensation can now enjoy The Voice of the Ocean as part of a live audience, where they can watch blind auditions, root for the contestants to be chosen by the coaches in their iconic rotating chairs, and clap along to the live performances until a winner is crowned.
There is something special about the energy of live stage performances, and Princess guests can experience it in many ways. Broadway-style production shows are filled with singing, dancing, and pulse-pounding music. Top stand-up comics recognizable from late-night TV talk shows perform hilarious comedy. Renowned magicians deftly perform skilled close-up sleight of hand and seemingly impossible grand stage illusions that leave guests spellbound.
Plus, live music and street entertainment can be found in The Piazza, slots and live table games up the ante on the action in the Las Vegas-style casino, guests can dance the night away to the beats in the onboard nightclubs and everyone can relax and enjoy the outdoor nighttime cinema experience of Movies Under the Stars®.
With more than 150 different itineraries, Princess Cruises offers guests the opportunity to travel the world, with sailings to six continents that call at more than 300 ports and destinations around the world. Destinations include the Caribbean, Alaska, Panama Canal, Europe, Mexico, South America, Australia/New Zealand, South Pacific, Hawaii, Tahiti/French Polynesia, Asia, India, Africa, Canada/New England and World Cruises. Princess guests can enhance their cruise experience with a wide array of in-port excursions worldwide, and the company's cruisetour offerings combine cruises with full on-shore tours including comfortable overnight stays on land.
In particular, having led the way in Gulf of Alaska cruising, Princess maintains a strong presence in the 49th state.
