CLIA Political Action Committee (CLIA PAC)

What is CLIA PAC?

CLIA PAC is the legal entity through which employees of individual CLIA cruises lines pool financial resources to support the election of federal lawmakers who support policies to facilitate growth in cruising. CLIA PAC is regulated by the U.S. Federal Election Commission, and its finances and activities are overseen and administered by a Board of Directors comprised of senior cruise line executives. CLIA PAC is not affiliated with any political party and it makes campaign contributions on a bipartisan basis.

What is at stake?

As with most industry sectors, cruising is under constant scrutiny from policymakers and attacks from professional industry critics. Ensuring that our voice is heard and that candidates for federal office share our pro-travel and pro-cruising positions is essential to avoiding misinformed policies that can cost CLIA members millions of dollars in unnecessary costs or make the U.S. an unsustainable market for cruising.

How does CLIA PAC work?

CLIA’s ability to succeed in the legislative policy arena is directly linked to our engagement in the political process.  CLIA PAC is the primary means by which we ensure that our collective industry voice is heard by candidates seeking federal office. It also helps us build relationships with policymakers, educate candidates on our issues, and elect pro-cruising candidates. Anti-cruise groups are active in the political process, and the cruise community must be able to counter those activities and communicate our very positive positions.

Where do contributions go?

All CLIA PAC contributions are made to candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate who understand and support the policy priorities of the cruise community.

How much can I contribute to CLIA PAC?

All contributions to CLIA PAC can be in any amount up to $5,000 per year. Contributions must be made from personal, rather than corporate or business funds.

Are contributions tax deductible and can they be submitted as a business expense?

Contributions to PACs are not tax deductible. Corporate or business contributions are not permitted under Federal Election Commission law. All contributions to CLIA PAC must be from personal funds.
