Exclusive Luxury Experiences

Exclusive Luxury Experiences
By Lucy Hone, Sales Manager, South - Uniworld Boutique River Cruises

I was so happy to be back sailing on a Uniworld ship to remind myself how luxurious they are. From the exemplary service from the crew, unbeatable comfort and ease to the award-winning cuisine made with local ingredients, Uniworld is true 6-star luxury. I decided to sail the Rhine, and now understand now why it's called the Romantic Rhine! With quaint villages, medieval churches, castles and vineyards, made all the more captivating with private experiences, and in-depth history with our local expert.

Each day was difficult to decide which excursion to take, with such incredible choice, all were immersive and cultural (and already included!) The excursion program takes into account that some guests would like to be active, while others prefer a more leisurely pace. We had the option of 1 or 2 trips a day, however, I've highlighted the three experiences I most enjoyed and learnt so much from.

Day 2

Docked in Breisach Germany and my choice was visiting 2 Alsatian Villages, Eguisheim and Kayserberg. We took the most scenic drive through the Alsatian Vineyards on our Uniworld coach, with first stop in Eguisheim, a medieval village, where we enjoyed a tour through the cobblestone streets tasting the local delicacies. We discovered that they have developed a program to help increase the diminishing number of Storks, so have put nests for them on churches and buildings. Next stop Kayserburg, again a historical city, dating back to 1227! It was voted Favourite French village in 2017, we had a delightful local lunch.

Day 4

Docked in Speyer, Germany and then took the Uniworld coach to the private Doktorenhof Vinegar Estate, an exclusive Uniworld experience, where we were lucky enough to be able to taste 6 different vinegars, hand crafted from their own vineyards – just like wine tasting! We had to be gowned up, in order not to contaminate the vinegar in their wooden casks, so felt like I was joining a monastery.

Day 5

Today was to Castle Vollrads for real Wine tasting, not vinegar, and a tour of the property plus grounds. One of the oldest vineyards in the Region, they hand pick their grapes. They distribute their wine to top Restaurants and Hotels all over Germany, Uniworld exclusively features their wine onboard and we had one of their finest Reisling with our dinner that evening, which made it even more special.

Every day was a day of Discovery on this Uniworld Rhine cruise.
